What models and trims are available?Īs with all Kias, the model line-up is easy to understand, ranging from the entry-level ‘2’ model to the ‘4’. It has a little more bodyroll than the Ceed hatchback, but is still very tightly controlled compared with most of its SUV rivals. There’s little to complain about how the XCeed drives, with agile handling and precise steering, which is very much par for the course with the rest of the Ceed range. Performance is adequate in the entry-level 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol version, but if you’re a long distance driver you’ll really appreciate the additional power you get from the 1.4, which really does pull well at motorway speeds. There is also a 141hp plug-in hybrid variant, capable of impressive fuel economy if utilised effectively. There’s a choice of 120hp 1.0-litre or 140hp 1.4-litre petrols, or a single 1.6-litre diesel in 115hp or 136hp tunes. Rear passenger space, meanwhile, is impressive. There’s a noticeable load sill, though, and like the ProCeed the sloping roofline somewhat limits overall practicality if you’re intending to load it up to the gunnels. Open up the boot (electrically operated on certain models) and you’ll find a load bay 426 litres in size – or up to 1,378 litres with the seats folded down. There’s a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster – Kia’s first – and a central infotainment screen that can grow from its standard 8.0-inches to a massive 10.25-inches. The XCeed’s cabin design is broadly similar to the Ceed hatchback’s, but stepping up to one of the top trim levels will net you an air of premium luxury that you don’t often see on the Korean brand’s cars. It joins the hatchback alongside the Sportswagon estate, and Proceed shooting brake and proves to be a very appealing all-rounder. Which is why Kia has bolstered its range with this jacked-up model under the Ceed umbrella. No car manufacturer’s lineup is finished without a plethora of SUV entrants.
