![]() Far more of the process comes down to knowing a vehicle inside and out, replacing parts as needed, and making upgrades as they arise. At least the interior is 'washed' now.For gearheads, ownership is only a small step on the path towards the acquisition of a dream car. And I pushed the RX8 (no working AC right now) into the garage, mopped up the standing water, and left a few fans inside along with the garage AC and dehumidifier running overnight. The wife's Focus will get more attention in the morning. Had to take my Fiesta on an errand tonight anyway, so it is dry after doing 60 miles with the windows down. I dried the hard surfaces in the daily drivers and let each run with the AC cranking on recirculate for about 20 minutes. That's when a line of thunderstorms finally decided to roll through, leading to a panic of running around closing everything up, which meant i got fully soaked, all the cars got soaked, and i am sure the neighbors had a good laugh if they were watching. Look at that nifty sunroof, open along with all the windows, to air out the new car! So I proceeded to wash all 4 of our cars, leave the windows open, and went inside for dinner. ![]() I like it a lot more now in gloss silver rather than matte-silver-and-mildew. I tried leaving it out for the remains of Hurricane Laura to wash, but the day turned out to just be some drizzle and clouds and eventually sun. Ah, cheap all seasons, how do normal people survive on these?! I can say, it is definitely 'not fast' and at the same time it will blow the tires off at 50 mph in 2nd gear if you step on it. the clutch was improving, the brakes were still rusty since i was trying not to use them, and the traction control fired off about 45 times in those 10 miles. With very grabby clutch and very grabby rusty brakes. With no wipers, on old hard generic tires. Today we did paperwork and i drove it home. ![]() But it's cheap and I have not yet checked 'rotary' off my bucket list of cars so HEEEEEERE WEEEE GO! I ran the carfax and it would appear to be the original motor, has been through 5 or 6 owners, got repossessed in 2014, and has been auctioned 3 times in its life. Except for the huge ass dent by the fuel filler cap. But it has sorta ok compression numbers, starts cold, starts hot and looks to be rust free. Unknown history, the seller bought it from auction a year ago with intent to do a DSP Autocross build that never started. It's a 2007 Rx8 with about 110k miles on it. My place is the ugly concrete mess with a miata in it from the first pic. Not my garage, sadly, that's just where the car is living for another week or so until I drag it home. If something falls through with the car, at least I can flip the seats. This set looked SO clean I had to go grab them, before even making a deal on the car itself. I have always disliked leather seating and the power seats have my hair brushing the headliner. But the RX8 has power leather seats and a sunroof. I have no space to bring the car home until the aforementioned camaro leaves (hopefully today). So that's for sale and I'm picking up a POS RX-8 later this week. And it is a really nice car that makes me feel guilty if I don't keep it clean, waxed, garaged, etc. My Camaro is ready to drive/autocross, but I never have time to do so lately. Due to personal schedule changes, as of this fall I will have less time to attend motorsports events but a little more time to work in the garage.
